Only about 20% of parents were in full-time employment, and 61.5% of parents had a household income of less than 2.1 million yen. In the free-form comment section, people wrote things like, “My child lost seven kilos by only eating one or two meals a day,” and “He suffered from heat stroke because he refrained from using the air conditioner,” and some parents even mentioned that they had cancer that had progressed to stage four because they could not afford medical treatment.
